Origin of the name
Ashoka was one of the greatest emperors of ancient India and is recognized as the first vegetarian emperor. Confronted with the horrors of his military campaigns, he became aware of the value of all life and decided to transform his reign.
Convinced that violence was not the only way to govern, Ashoka forbade the killing of animals on his lands. Hundreds of thousands of lives were spared, putting an end to centuries of bloody practices.
"No animal should be given to another to eat." — Emperor Ashoka
By caring for both humans and animals, he inspired a profound change in mentality and values, laying the foundations for a more respectful and ethical vision of the world.
